copilot

i was slightly shocked when you mentioned copilot at the christmas party last night, because i didn’t know you knew what that was.

copilot is the name of a particular system intended to be a machine co-worker to humans. originally (and still does in tech circles) to github copilot, but microsoft acquired github and (my guess is) adopted the name for their office suite programs, which is called microsoft copilot.

if i just say copilot i will always mean github copilot.

copilot is genuinely pretty amazing for building things¹. much better than using chatgpt alone. and as a student, you get to use it for free via the github student developer pack. you should verify with your university email to get get the student developer pack. then, it’s probably a good idea to go through the first three tutorials in the pack:

1. intro to copilot
2. understanding markdown
3. intro to github

they’ll each take less than 30 minutes. and is probably way more time-efficient than for me to try to explain it here.
