site design & philosophy

i started making this website two days before i was supposed to give it to you. i thought there was time. but like everything else, it feels like there’s a lot of time until there isn’t.

this is, without a doubt, the best present i (or anyone i know) have ever made. love makes us do weird things.

when i told my my shanghai friend the idea to make this website, she said that it sounded like a letter in the form of a website

i disagree.

a letter implies a certain kind of linearity. to write one would require me to consider the macro structure and the order of things.

but, copying her approach to essay-writing, 我基本是梦到那句写哪句

i guess i don’t even know what this is insofar as i’ve never seen anything like it. credits owed to garden notes for inspiration in form; to you, for the idea to do something like this; to st, for the suggestion (by way of mentioning a letter) to write in second-person.

incidentally, one of my 2025 resolutions was to do one personal [[ programming ]]¹ project of some kind, and i think this counts.

so i guess this is sort of a combination of all of those things, an experiment, like everything else about us–an attempt–to build a garden, and see what emerges from the soil
